CAD SYMBOLS
KI offers two primary methods for designing furniture layouts. CAP Studio and Giza symbol libraries and Encompass.

Encompass® CAD and Encompass®  Specifier 
Encompass is a two-part tool that KI has developed to improve the furniture planning and specifying process.

Encompass CAD is AutoCAD based programming that allows for the quick, accurate & efficient insertion of 2D & 3D symbols or blocks into drawings.  These blocks are sometimes referred to as “smart blocks”.  They contain information that assists with the automated insertion routines built into Encompass CAD.

Encompass CAD is based on menu “trees” or User Interfaces (UI) that allow for the quick picking of available furniture and accurate placement.  The accurate placement is based on rules that have been built into the programming. KI Product knowledge is needed in order to properly plan layouts. Additional Encompass CAD help is built into the software. There is a Corporate trainer available for Webex demonstrations and short training sessions.

The block information also feeds the specifying program called Encompass Specifier.  This programming provides information so the furniture on the drawing can be both quoted and ordered accurately.  If you do not require a drawing you can specify your entire quote using only Encompass Specifier.  Encompass Specifier is maintained by the KI Electronic Library group in KI. Encompass Specifier both imports and exports SIF files for integration to other specification/purchasing platforms.

Encompass is maintained in-house allowing us to make quick updates when they are needed.  Tools have been implemented to notify the users when updates take place. An internet connection then allows the user to download these changes within 24 hours.

You must request and subsequently be approved to receive either pieces of the Encompass software (CAD and Specifier). Neither pieces can be downloaded directly without approval. Both pieces are at no charge to the user. You must own a recent copy of AutoCAD (not AutoCAD LT) to use the CAD portion.

The majority of KI's customers simply prefer to let KI's Corporate CAD Department handle their drawing needs as part of a quote. However, these tools are available for the power user or design firms that wish to create their own plans.
